Will There Be a Stimulus Check in 2023?

As prices rise during the coronavirus pandemic, Americans have been looking to their governments for some relief. The federal government has already issued two rounds of will there be a stimulus check in 2023?, known as Economic Impact Payments, to help American families struggling with rising costs from the pandemic. But will there be a fourth round of these payments?

A third round of stimulus checks, worth $1,400 per person, will be sent to Americans starting this summer. The first two rounds of these payments, which were paid out as either direct deposit or mailed checks, were each worth $1,200.

To qualify for this round of relief, households must have an adjusted gross income (AGI) below $75,000 for single filers, $112,500 for heads of household, and $153,000 for married joint filers. AGI is a measure of household income and is calculated using tax filings. The new round of checks will be based on the AGI reported on last year’s taxes.

A spokesperson for the IRS told VERIFY that there are no plans for a fourth round of these payments in 2023. A fourth-round would require Congress to pass a law authorizing such payments and President Biden to sign it into law.

In the meantime, a number of states have started to offer their own forms of stimulus payments to residents. These include rebates, loans and one-time payments. You can find out if your state is among them by visiting the Get My Payment tool on the IRS website.
